Autism Awareness Day for Parents & Families – 18th October 2012
After the successful training days during National Autism Awareness Month in April, Fairway Training decided to put on another free training day for Parents & Families. The half-day course was aimed for parents and families of children who have had a diagnosis of ASD – Autistic Spectrum Disorder including Asperger’s Syndrome.

We were delighted to have a guest speaker Kevin Healey, Chairman of SAAS join Danny our Lead Trainer for the morning session. Kevin has been campaigning for autism rights for the last 10 years, he is one of twins, both of which have been diagnosed sufferers. In 2001, Kevin founded the North Staffordshire Asperger & Autism Association (NSAAA), then went on the found the Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society (SAAS) in May, 2007. SAAS recently won this year the Queens Award M.B.E for voluntary service. Kevin has campaigned to get better services and support for people with an autistic spectrum condition and he has won various awards over the last decade. Kevin is also a Councilor for the largest autism charity in the UK, the National Autistic Society.

We received some fantastic feedback from all our attendees and it was great to see parents exchanging their experiences and learning more about the condition. Kevin commented on the day’s training saying “Danny Page is a breath of fresh when it comes to AUTISM, dedicated, compassion, and most of all he knows about Autism inside/out, a remarkable trainer, keeps everyone’s attention. I have met many trainers but no one compares to Danny, his knowledge and in-depth sight to Autism is just amazing , 5* presentation and a great trainer that everyone needs to learn from”.

Jeans for Genes Day – 4th October 2012
In September and October the Fairway Team in Sutton Coldfield decided to raise money for the charity Jeans for Genes. In the weeks running up to Friday 4th October the team wore jeans every Friday and donated monies for the pleasure! The charity raises money for Genetic Disorders UK and aims to change the world for children with genetic disorders. Individually, genetic disorders are rare but together they affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK – that’s more than 30,000 babies each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under.

The team managed to raise £50 during those few weeks and this will pay for a mother to attend a support day, giving her the help she needs to care for an extremely rare and profoundly disabling genetic condition.

Jeans for Genes Day takes place on Friday 5^th October 2012. The charity’s target for this year is £2.5 million, and it’s a simple idea – on Jeans for Genes Day people leave their suits and uniforms at home and wear their jeans to work or school in return for a donation. (hey, we did this in the Brownies in the 1970′s on non-uniform day!)

Jeans for Genes Day raises money for Genetic Disorders UK which aims to raise money to provide vital care and support for individuals and families with genetic disorders. In 2012, twenty three charities will benefit from the funds raised.

August 2012 – Changing the way we care, one course at a time

Fairway Training’s Lead Trainer Danny Page recently visited Dame Ellen Pinsent School in Kings Heath, Birmingham to work with parents of autistic children as part of their ongoing remit to deliver exceptional support to a child’s development.

Dame Ellen Pinsent School is a forward thinking, award winning school for children aged between 4 – 11 years, who have a wide range of special educational needs. The school prides themselves on being a truly inclusive school with the expertise to meet a wide variety of special educational needs. The school currently has 120 pupils with 45 of the children living with Autism (ASD).

As part of their programme to deliver ongoing help and support to parents Lucy Kinsella, Development Manager asked Fairway Training to come in and speak to parents about Autism (ASD). The workshop covered the following areas, Understanding ASD, Managing the Anxiety, Communication, Practical Tips at Home & School and Empathy. At the end of the workshop the parents had a Q & A session whereby both parents and teachers discussed their experiences they have found over time and ways of creating successful strategies for the ongoing support and development of the children.. Autism Awareness Training Day For Parents & Families

Due to overwhelming demand from parents during Autism Awareness Month, Fairway Training are offering parents and families the opportunity of Autism Awareness Training with our lead trainer Danny Page in July. Fairway Training are forging forward with more workshops and bigger sessions over the next few months. The aim is to drive autism awareness and to provide much needed support and information to parents and teachers to support children and young adults.

This half day course is suitable for parents and families of children who have had a diagnosis of ASD – Autistic Spectrum Disorder including Asperger’s Syndrome.

For us, Autism Training is so much more; it’s not just about helping people understand the most modern and relevant research into the field; it’s about changing attitudes. We know that massive improvements are possible in people’s lives and we promote this throughout our training. We don’t simply repeat the mantra of “routine, routine, routine,” we embrace developmental steps that can alter the course of a person’s life. Our training is based on the most recent research in Autism and is a must for all parents and families.

The course will be run by Danny Page (MSC) our lead trainer at Fairway Training. Danny was a Care Manager for people with Autism for many years. He is a very experienced trainer and has both professional and personal interest in Autism that shows in his passionate delivery of the course.

Safeguarding Children & Attachment and Trauma For Foster Carers
To celebrate Foster Care Fortnight, we are offering foster carers the opportunity of a days free Safeguarding Children and Attachment and Trauma Training with professionals from Fairway Training & Inspired Foundations. Working in partnership we will be providing a days training on either the 18th or 23rd of May to anyone working within the foster care system.

The National Care Awards 2011

Regional Finalists “Care Trainer Award” & “Care Employer Award”

We are excited to announce that Fairway Healthcare & Training have been short listed for two awards at this year’s The Regional National Care Awards. The awards are Care Trainer Award and Care Trainer of the Year our very own Danny Page.

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector . The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. This year there are 9 regional awards leading to 2 national finals for both the home care and care home sectors, to be held at a prestigious central London venue in London in 2012.

The awards are all inclusive, bringing together the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors, aswell as unpaid carers; promoting joint working. Working in partnership with care partners and local care associations is at the heart of the initiative; working and linking directly with local managers and networks to further promote the event.

“A truly uplifting event, recognising in great style the incredible achievements of Britain’s care workers, co-ordinators, care managers and innovators.
I can honestly say that the Ceretas ceremony was the best event of its kind I have ever been to.
Congratulations to the organisers and all those who received their awards with such dignity. The event should be a must next year for the BBC and others in the national media.”

The Gala Evening is to be held at the International Convention Centre on Saturday 15th October, we shall keep you posted!
